It's our yearly tradition. I was just amazed by how much the kids have grown and changed. Fei-fei is now 6 1/2 and Coco is now 2. They are enjoying playing together and I can see a lot of similarities between them. Here is our part 6...

This blog has been quiet for a while because I went for a vacation in Manila last December 2011. We just got back almost two weeks ago and we are slowly adjusting to our routine here in Dubai again. It was a very fast one month and the holidays made it even faster with all the Christmas rush, traffic, last minute shopping and reunions.
.

The highlights of our vacation...
.

-Nico's 2nd Birthday at Don Henrico's. It was held a day after we arrived in Manila and we were still jetlagged! Unfortunately, I left the pictures in my sister's laptop and I'm still waiting for her to send it to me. For the mean time, here are the photos of Nico's little celebration here in Dubai.

-Tagaytay visit. I love this place already. I can see myself and hubby growing old in this place. I love that it is away from the hustle and bustle of the city.

-We finally gave in to Fei's Christmas wish - a puppy! She was the happiest little girl! We named the puppy "Yong" :)

-Christmas Eve with the Lee family. After five years we are complete again. I feel blessed to have a happy and supportive family with me.

-Christmas Day with the Bobis family. This is a tradition that hubby has ever since we were still dating. I remember my first time going to their annual reunions. It's like everyone is looking at me since I am the new girl. It was nerve racking! But, everyone was sweet and very friendly.

-Roy the godfather :) Our friend from Dubai had their youngest daughter christened in Tarlac, a northern province in the Philippines. They asked Roy to be the godfather to their third child. The scenery was beautiful. Driving to the countryside always has its charm.

-Meet up with college friends. I love catching up with my girls and reminiscing the old days. We just laughed all night. I miss them already!

-Family portrait. At last! A complete family picture!

-Carson's 1st birthday. My favorite nephew is now one! Love you, Car-car!

-New Year's Eve at Roy's parents. I put Nico to sleep right away since I know that he would get scared with all the loud firecrackers. But, it turned out that I dozed off too! LOL! I was in the land of nod when 2011 was saying goodbye. Hihi!
.

-New Year's day at the Malabon Zoo. Hmmm... It's not the best zoo but, why not? We get to see animals we don't see everyday.
.

.

-Swimming! January is supposed to be a bit cold but it wasn't! I was sweating all the time. The kids were always asking to go swimming. We bought this handy swimming pool two years ago. Fei didn't enjoy it because she was alone and didn't have anyone to play with. But, now that Coco and Lili can play with her, she was all smiles all the time.

A date in the old city - Intramuros. No kiddos with us! Woohoo! It's nice once in a while to go on a date and don't have to worry about tantrums, nappy change and kids whining. Since we were already in Escolta, hubby and I decided to go to Intramuros. I miss that place. There is just so much history in it.

-Hong Kong trip. This needs its own post. It was a rollercoaster planning and it almost didn't happen!
.

Well, that was it. I am very happy that the Holidays was spent with our families and friends. It is something we miss everytime we don't get to go home during December. And just like what the Department of Tourism of the Philippines says... It's more fun in the Philippines! Happy 2012 everyone!

This was our Eid Holiday. We took the kids to the park. It was jam packed! Nonetheless, they enjoyed it. The familiar smell of grilled shawarma and onions fill the air again. LOL! I'm looking forward for more outdoor activities since the weather is good now.

Hi! I'm Shaui. I don't know if you still remember me but I'm the author of this abandoned blog :) Well, I took a little break from scrapping and designing because my right arm has been aching again. Using the computer too much is bad. I need to go back to my therapist again to have this checked. Anyways, I was not productive for more than a month and I feel so behind and still looking for inspiration to finish a kit.

Everything is the same here. I think the weather is getting less hot here which is good! I was able to pick up my camera again and took some pics of Nico and hubby's new toy. Take a look...

They love the scratching sound! I don't mind it too but I want some peace and quiet when I get home from work. I hope everyone is well. I will post again something soon! TC!

The ride home

My favorite part of the day is the ride home. For me it means comfort and peace. Nothing beats family time, TV, internet at home and the me time I have when everyone is asleep. Do you want a joyride? Here is what I see for the past seven and half years...

This is Ramadan time at 7pm so everyone is probably at home having Iftar but usually this road is full.

When I arrived here in Dubai, I think this building was newly built. Until now I don't know if it's a museum or an office. Either way I can't make myself like it.

The Dubai airport always makes me miss Manila. It's like I want to jump in an airplane and just go home. But not that plane because that is an Airbus A380 and Manila don't have an airport that can accommodate this ginormous plane.

and finally seeing home.

Looking through the pictures I have taken, it looks so lonely. Maybe because its almost nigh time and there is not so much cars around but Dubai is a nice place. We do have traffic jams and we got lots of trees too.

I haven't shared any of my layouts for a while its because I don't have any. It's not really a scrap block, it's just pure laziness. OK, fine. It's Plants vs Zombies. I was cleaning out my desktop icons and there it was, THE icon. So, I put back to life the zombies again and its making me stay up late and I hated it. Oh well, I'll just make an excuse for myself that I need to de-stress.

Anyways, back to the topic of sharing... my layouts. TFL!

Hot and Humid

Summer is at its peak here in Dubai but we are still almost every weekend out of the house. My mother-in-law is here so we try to show her around.

This is the Atlantis Hotel. It looks very grand but I can't make myself like the color of the building. This day was so hot (42degrees) and humid (85%) that simply standing is a torture already.

A quick snapshot before going back to the car.

This is the China Court inside Ibn Batuta Mall. This is the only Chinese thing there and me. There is Baskin Robbins, an Italian and Indian Restaurant and IMAX theatre. So if you go here and went looking for a Chinese tea or Feng Shui stuff, this is NOT the place.

I guess things haven't changed since last year. It's still always like this when I want to take a picture of two of them together.

That was our weekend. Hoping for a better weather tomorrow. Tata!

Coming Home - Freebie Label

The Back-up Part 1

I started organizing my back-up files. It's a project that I have been working on for half a year now. I always postpone it and put it aside because life gets in the way. You see, I wanted it to look like "I am an organized person" hehe! Anyways, I think Im on that path. I am still undecided though if I want to put in a box or in a CD book. That is a very tough decision to make. Hehe! I divided my back-up DVDs into 5 categories:

1. Photos

2. Fei-fei's Stuff

3. Scrap stash

4. Design Tools

5. Scrap Pages

Im done with my photos and my scrap pages so, now, I got three more to go. And by the way, every category has its color theme! Sophisticated, huh? LOL!

Here is how my DVDs look like right now. It's a complete mess and sometimes with no labels at all! (I know, LAZY!!!)

And here are the pics of my CD labels. They look all so pretty! I'm in love with them!

Now, I'm off to organize Fei-fei's Stuff, Scrap Stash and Design Tools. Although it still needs MAJOR, MAJOR cleaning. I'm erasing some files that I'm sure I wouldn't need and it's difficult to let them go.

For now, this is fine. At least I know where to find them and my mind is at peace that just in case the back-up files (especially the pictures!) we have in our external hard drive crashes. Yes, I have a back-up to the back-up. Is that too much? How do you back-up your files? Maybe I need some enlightenment on this :) I'll post pictures soon when everything is finished!

Writing more

One thing that has changed in my scrapbooking style is I try to incorporate more pictures and write more. It was a very big challenge because I'm not a good writer but when I look back at my layouts and read what I have written, I smile at my little accomplishment. Scrapbooking became more meaningful and fulfilling. Before, it was all about just making it pretty but at after some time I realized that there is something lacking. I wanted it more personal.

So, I bought a little notebook and write whatever it is on my mind. Write what Fei said that is funny. Write Nico's milestones. Write what made me happy, sad or mad that day. Write what I want to do. Just write. And somehow journaling was a bit easier because I have something that would remind me of significant things. Its like a replay button and I would remember.

I have here a set of journaling tags that you can use. Its just very simple. I hope this can help to make you start to write more. Goodluck!

Grocery time!

Saturdays is the last day of the week here and it is our grocery day too. We bring the kiddos along with us because it is fun for them and a bit crazy for us. Well, I am not really an efficient shopper because sometimes I have a checklist and sometimes I don't. Honestly, I do enjoy visiting all the aisles. Hehe! I like checking what's in promotion and what's new. We spend a lot of time at the fruits and vegetable section and at the electronic section. And then the kids get bored and antsy and then we rush everything. Hehe! That is usually the scenario we have.

So, I finally able to post the pictures of our photobook that I have printed last year at Blurb. Just want to let you know that I am very happy with the outcome. It was nicely packaged. I got it in good condition and the paper was of great quality and of course the printing was superb! If you want your photobooks printed, I highly recommend Blurb. Although... if you are leaving in the Philippines, just a heads up, that you will be paying for additional tax when they deliver the album to your house (the courier will not give your album if you don't pay it). I think it was about 1200pesos ($28). But, that I didn't know until it was shipped to me. And you might be asking why have it delivered in Philippines, because at that time Blurb don't ship here in UAE but now that they ship here, of course I will have it delivered here and... YAY! no additional payment for me. Anyways, here are the picture of my book.

Nico has been talking a lot. Most of it I don't understand. The word that he has been saying a lot is "No." He would say it with a long N and a long O like "Nnnnnnnnoooooooo." It's quite cute actually. He likes to climb on everything, very curious and likes to grab anything that he can reach and throw it. Fei on the other hand is so bored already at home. It's their summer vacation right now and summer camp starts at mid July plus we will be postponing our annual vacation to December (hopefully) because of unexpected emergencies. Poor Fei she will be stuck inside the house a lot. Me on the other hand scrapped! Wooohooo! Let me show you my pages :) (click to see it in a larger view)

Simple Joys

I have been off from my day job for two weeks already so I can take care of the kiddos and I'll be extending it for two more weeks until my MIL arrives at the end of the month. I don't know how all the stay at home moms do it but its really hard work. But even though its tough, I get to hang out with the kids all the time. Mostly its fun and rewarding but honestly sometimes they just make me crazy. LOL! Anyways, all this things just inspired me to make this kit - Simple Joys. Well, it's always the same plot... someone had amnesia, poor guy-rich girl with a me and you against the world love story, twins separated at birth, babies switched at birth, and there is amnesia AGAIN. a birthday and a haircut

Last week was hubby's birthday. Im supposed to bake a cake but after the disastrous NO BAKE Blueberry Cheesecake... I know. How could I mess it up? Its no bake already! Well, its because I'm very talented. Period. So, I decided to just just buy one and it was a good decision made. We celebrated it at home. Its just us, the TV, Fei's ramblings and Nico's babbling. It was a lazy, sleepy Friday afternoon. I LOVE it! After a short nap we went to the park and took some pictures...

...and then went to the mall and had Nico's first haircut. The moment I sat him on the chair he cried his heart out. Even Barney can't make him stop. The lady who cut his hair was very nice and very quick. She was used to it she said. Within five minutes it was done and Im a happy mama because no more crying from my little Coco and it's another milestone! So, goodbye to the Bieberish hair (I will miss you) and see you after a few months :) Of course I took some of Nico's hair and kept it with Fei's first hair cut too.

Then my promise for Fei, a carousel ride!

A Quick Photoshop Tutorial about Blending Modes

Level: Beginners

I have discovered about blending modes more than a year after I started designing. It was mind blowing for me because I didn't know that it existed. Even my scrapping style has changed. Before, what I will do is change the opacity of my object to have a little transparency. It was okay but it looked flat. I was looking for more. So, today, I will show you the blending modes that are frequently used when scrapping. These are Multiply, Screen, Overlay and Soft Light.

You can download the things that we will need here. It consists of a paper and an element.

Are you ready? Let's start!

The Blending Modes is located at the upper left corner of your Layer tabs. It is in its default mode "Normal"

1. Open a new document.

2. Open also the paper and element freebie for this tutorial.

3. Drag the paper first on to your new document and then your element. Your paper will be automatically named as Layer 1 and on top of it is the element as Layer 2.

4. Just for easy reference I renamed Layer 1 to 'Paper' and Layer 2 to 'Element'. If you want to do this too, just right click on the layer that you want to rename and click 'Layer Properties'. A new window will open and you can now specify a new name for your layer.

5. You have to be on your 'Element' layer so you need to click on the layer 'Element'. Then click on the little arrow right beside the text 'Normal'. You will now see a drop down menu listing all the different Blending Modes. Just click on Overlay and....

Tadaaaa!!! You just blended your element to your paper. Its pretty easy and very quick huh? Now, you can experiment on the other blending modes. You can also play with the opacity and even duplicate or resize your element and move it around for different effects.

Basically we are finish with the quick tutorial. But if you want to learn what is the difference of Multiply, Screen, Overlay and Soft Light, please read further...

As you can see, when you click on the little arrow beside 'Normal' you will see all the list of the Blending Modes and they are grouped into six:

For this tutorial we will only tackle the ones that are most widely used in scrapping.

Darkening Modes

The Darkening Modes makes your object appear darker. In this group, I use Multiply the most. What it does is it multiplies the dark areas twice producing a darker image and the light areas unchanged.

Lightening Modes

The Lightening Modes makes your object appear lighter. In this group, I use Screen the most. Basically it is the opposite of Multiply. It brightens the base layer with the blend layer.

Contrast Modes

The Contrast Modes makes your object appear lighter and darker at the same time. In this group, I use Overlay and Soft Light the most. Overlay intensifies the dark areas and highlights more the light while Soft Light is very much like Overlay but it is more subtle.

Here is a glimpse of the blending modes together.

Remember, you can always mix and match, you can blend a picture on paper, paper on paper, a wordart on a photo, an overlay on a wordart, the possibilities are endless! Have fun with experimenting all the blending modes and you'll be amazed with the effects that it can give to your layout.

Reunion

Last week, I met a friend that I haven't seen for more than three years. She migrated to France and has now a very lovely family. Her baby was as cute as a button! I could just squeeze his cheeks! We used to work at the same company and it was nice catching up with her. Here are some pics of our reunion.

Scrappy me!

I haven't shared you my latest layouts yet. Lately I just feel tired when I get home and doesn't have the energy to scrap. The ideas are there but my hands wouldn't work. Have you experienced that before? Well, this one, I need to scrap because it's another milestone of Nico. I heard him say his name for the first time! Now, he copies me whenever I call his name. When I say 'Nico' he would say 'Ico'. It's soooo cute! I also love it when he rambles on something that I can't understand. Sometimes we call him 'chukotoy' because that is what he say all the time. Wow! We are half way done with January. Boy, that was fast! During winter here in Dubai the most awaited sale is the Dubai Shopping Festival. Almost all shops are on sale. Literally, they will break your budget. Up to 80% off on every store and then a car giveaway everyday for a month! People get crazy here during this month. I think this is the equivalent of Black Friday Sale but its extended for 30 days! I'll show you pictures of all the red tags I see here.

Last weekend, we took Fei and Nico to Creek Park to do our family tradition. We would take pictures of Fei on the same spot to know how much she has grown. This time it's more special because Nico is included in it. This will be our fifth year and its so nice to look at the pictures side by side and see the difference.

I miss how I can carry Fei so easily on one arm. Now, I have to break a bone or many bones just to carry her.

First post for the year 2011 and I have layouts to show! Woohoo! I have scrapped less and less this past few weeks because I have been resting my wrist. Now, I think its going back to normal but I should still be careful.

We spent our New Year watching the fireworks at Burj Khalifa (aka the tallest building in the world). It was beautiful and very moving but I would have enjoyed it better if we were able to get a place in front of the building or inside the premises. Since it was JAM PACKED we settled at the other side of the street. It was fun and exciting because it was my first time ever to spend the new years eve outside. I didn't expect so many people to come out. Ive read that there were almost 500 thousand spectators. Here are some photos of the fireworks :)

Nico turned 1 last December 1. We had it at Creek Park on Dec. 2 because that was a holiday here in UAE. There were sooooo many people! Like the whole Dubai decided to go there and celebrate the National Day. Im ok with many people what I just don't like is when they are on the background of my photos. Hehe! Its the Eid Holidays here and Im the happiest girl because we don't have work for nine days!!! WOOOHOO!
